| Abstract |
A tanulmány Servan-Schreiber legfontosabb könyvét, az 1967-ben megjelent „Az amerikai kihívást” középpontba állítva kalauzolja az olvasót az információs társadalom elmélettörténetének korai időszakába. A hatvanas évek közepét a „poszt-indusztriális” állapot nyugtalan fürkészése, az Egyesült Államok hihetetlen tempójú gazdasági és technológiai fejlődésétől megszédült Európa identitás-és útkeresése jellemzi. Figyelemre méltó, hogy a „riadót” fújó francia újságíró milyen érzékenyen és autentikusan tájékozódik és tájékoztat a korai információs társadalom legfontosabb területein, s emiatt üzenetei számos vonatkozásban mai napig frissek és aktuálisak.

| Abstract (translation) |
The paper, reviewing the most significant book of Servan-Schreiber, "The American Challenge", published in 1967, guides the reader back to an early stage of the conceptual history of the term "information society". Europe, dizzied in the mid-sixties by the challenges of the "post-industrial era" and the formidable economical and technological development of the United States, was seeking its identity and its place in the global arena. It is remarkable how sensitively and authentically the French journalist, being aware of an upcoming new paradigm, was ringing the alarm: much of his analyses and messages that brought about an enlightening effect on the public of a premature French information society is fresh and valid even today.
