| Abstract |
Az emberi kommunikáció írásbeli, orális és audiovizuális modalitásai egyetlen interaktív hálózatban integrálódnak. A szerző ebben a fejezetben a tömegkommunikációs eszközöknek a kultúrára és a társadalmi viselkedésre gyakorolt hatásait elemzi. Ezután az 1980-as évek folyamán végbement átalakulásukat tárgyalja, melynek során a változatos, decentralizált „új médiumok” előkészítették a talajt az 1990-es évekre, a multimédia rendszerek kialakulásához, végül pedig a számítógépes hálózatok köré szerveződő különféle kommunikációs rendszerekkel, az Internet megjelenésével és az új típusú virtuális közösségek spontán kifejlődésével foglalkozik. Összeveti a különféle rendszerek konvergenciájának társadalmi dimenzióit és egybeolvadásuk lehetséges hatásait, s megállapítja, hogy az új kommunikációs rendszer hatásai révén kibontakozik a valóságos virtualitás kultúrája.

| Abstract (translation) |
A technological transformation of historic dimensions, namely the integration of written, oral and audiovisual modalities of human communication in the same interactive network, is taking place. In this chapter the author first retraces the formation of the mass media, and their interplay with culture and social behaviour. Then he assesses their transformation during the 1980s, with the emergence of decentralized and diversified "new media" which prepared the formation of a multimedia system in the 1990s. Later he deals with the system of communication organized around computer networking, with the emergence of the Internet and the spontaneous development of new kinds of virtual communities. Finally, he turns his attention to the social dimensions of the convergence of the various systems, analyzes the potential impact of their coming merger and comes to the conclusion that, through the powerful influence of the new communication system, the culture of real virtuality is emerging.
