Title: Hyperbolic phraseology in media literacy Abstract: The purpose of this research-in-progress paper is to examine the primary mecha-nisms underpinning the construction of a language paradigm in cognitive terms byanalysing hyperbolised phraseological units as tools of emotive-evaluation in mediatexts. The main method employed is a theoretical approach to the study of medialiteracy in contemporary society, which involved constructing linguistic templatesfor the perception of reality and its cognitive representation, using the examplesof two national language codes. This investigation reveals the basic mechanisms ofrecognising communicative strategies in the media sphere by means of employinga wide array of linguistic resources, with a focus on the functioning of phraseolog-ical units built on hyperbole.
